{"id":17889,"date":"2016-08-17T14:55:23","date_gmt":"2016-08-17T21:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goldcopreciousmetals.com\/?p=17889"},"modified":"2025-11-21T14:08:53","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T22:08:53","slug":"fearful-global-economic-decline-rothschilds-shift-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goldco.com\/fearful-global-economic-decline-rothschilds-shift-gold\/","title":{"rendered":"Rothschilds Switch to Gold Due To Weak Global Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whatinvestment.co.uk\/financial-news\/funds\/2540166\/lord-rothschild-why-iand39ve-sold-hundreds-of-millions-of-pounds-worth-of-shares-and-bought-gold.thtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lord Rothschild<\/a>, distinguished investment banker and chairman of the three-billion-pound Rothschild Investment Trust, has informed shareholders of a major financial decision. He has substantially reduced the Trust\u2019s percentage of stocks, and switched much of its paper assets to gold.<\/p>\n<p>To call Lord Rothschild a seasoned investor would be a serious understatement. The Right Hon. Nathaniel Charles Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild, Bt.,OM, GBE, FBA, comes from a banking family that can trace its roots to 1577, and its professional direction to the birth of Mayer Amschel Rothschild in Frankfurt am Main in 1744, son of a money changer who had traded with the Prince of Hesse.<\/p>\n<p>The Rothschilds\u2019 wealth has survived through at least two centuries because family members learned early to diversify assets and place them strategically in different countries in the form of stocks, bonds, and debts.<\/p>\n<p>But the Rothschilds are no strangers to gold. In 1919, the daily gold fix (the day\u2019s setting of the gold price) began on the premises of Nathan Mayer Rothschild &amp; Sons. Although the firm sold its spot at the gold fix table to Barclays in 2004, it\u2019s clear from Lord Rothschild\u2019s current announcement the family continues to understand the nature and value of gold.<\/p>\n<p>In his message to shareholders, Lord Rothschild attributed much of his decision to invest a portion of the family fortune in gold to the \u201cgreatest experiment in monetary policy in the history of the world.\u201d His decision to invest in gold became crystal clear when he expressed concern over extremely low interest rates, and thirty percent of government debt (bonds) at negative yields. And Rothschild is obviously disenchanted with \u201cquantitative easing on a massive scale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He seems obviously attuned to the analysis of economists like Lawrence Summers and Marc Faber in their discussions of a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160220020553\/https:\/\/larrysummers.com\/2016\/02\/17\/the-age-of-secular-stagnation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weak global economy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-07-07\/faber-%E2%80%9Cwake-people-world-greece-will-come-you-%E2%80%A6very-soon%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">secular stagnation<\/a>. So when Lord Rothschild invests a portion of his family\u2019s three-billion-pound Investment Trust in gold, he does so from a sense of urgency and despair over the current financial landscape. He\u2019s concerned over the effects of Brexit, the slowdown of the economy in China, the conflict in the Middle East, and terrorist attacks in France, Germany, and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s utmost in Lord Rothschild\u2019s thinking is the preservation of capital. It comes down to Mark Twain\u2019s adage: \u201cIt\u2019s not return on my money I\u2019m interested in, it\u2019s return of my money.\u201d It\u2019s foolish to take chances with money. But it\u2019s sheer madness to take chances with big money.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s also telling in Lord Rothschild\u2019s message to shareholders is his careful use of a word common among traders and professional investors, \u201cexposure.\u201d By reducing the concentration of equities and increasing the concentration of gold in the Investment Trust, Rothschild is also reducing its exposure to risk and to destructive central bank policies.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly all of us can learn from the Rothschild example. We\u2019re not in an economy with classical business cycles that move from boom to bust and back. Rather than wait for better times, we need to make smarter investments. We need to reduce our own exposure. Lord Rothschild picked gold for a reason, and that was because it protected him, his family\u2019s trust, and his shareholders from risk.\u00a0 Unlike some things only the wealthy have access to, this is one smart stratagem <a href=\"https:\/\/goldco.com\/precious-metals-ira\/gold-ira-coins\">you can employ<\/a> yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Physical gold is a tangible asset that holds its value over the long haul.
